GNCC, Samar Club script wins in 3rd Christmas Cup

JAMMU, Dec 29: Guru Nanak Cricket Club (GNCC) and Samar Cricket Club registered victories over their rivals to advance in the ongoing 3rd Christmas Twenty-20 Cricket Cup for College Students and J&K cricketers at Parade ground, here today.
S K Chouhan, S P City Jammu was the chief guest in today’s matches who was introduced with the participating teams. He was accompanied by the Rajesh Gill, organizing secretary of the tournament and Sunil Sambyal, member organizing committee during interaction session.
Earlier, in the first match, GNCCI defeated Eleven Star by 8 wickets in an easy contest.
Batting first, Eleven Star scored a modest total of 116 runs in the stipulated 20 overs for loss of 6 wickets, with Zaimat Ali (24) and Irshad (21) being the main scorers. Rahul and Azar took 2 wickets each whereas Rahil and Aman shared 1 wicket each.
GNCC, in reply achieved the target in 13.5 overs for the loss of 2 wickets thus won the match by 8 wickets. Rahul scored 54 runs and Gagan contributed 36. For Eleven Star, Irshad took 2 wickets. Rahul was declared man of the match.
In the second match, Samar Club scripted a comfortable win against Trikuta Cricket Club.
Batting first, Samar Club scored a mammoth total of 192 runs in 20 overs for the loss of 8 wickets. Jagan was the top scorer 78 runs, while Chotu contributed 68 runs. Deepak also chipped in with 13 runs.
For Trikuta, Kavi took 3 wickets, Makhan and Surjeet shared 2 wickets each, while Rupinder claimed 1 wicket.
In reply, Trikuta Club managed to score 147 in 20 overs to lose the match by 45 runs. Arun Sharma (39), J P (25) and Bablu (23) were the main scorers. For Samar Club, Amar, Chetan and Jagan took 2 wickets each, while Deepak picked 1 wicket. Jagan was adjudged man of the match.
The matches were officiated by Sadiq Hussain, Suhail Yusuf, Sandeep Manchanda, Vinod and Farooq.
