REASI, May 12: The Zonal Level Inter-School Tournament of Reasi Zone for Under-14 and Under-17 girls in the disciplines of kabaddi, kho-kho, wrestling and volleyball organized by the Department of Youth Services and Sports got underway, here today.
District Information Officer, Reasi , Parvinder Kour was the chief guest while Assistant Director Employment, Reasi, Sulakshana Thakur was the guest of honour on the inaugural function. District Sports Officer Reasi, Dr SS Chib, ZPEO Om Prakash, Principal Kambal Danga High School, members of PRIs, teachers and a large number of locals were also present on the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion, Mrs Kour said that Sports is the appropriate medium to ensure the wholesome development of the individual personality and such tournaments help in identifying the sports talent from rural areas and in grooming the students to become promising sportspersons.
Thakur in her address said the sports help to channelize the energy of the youth in true spirit as these help to imbibe tolerance, team work and coordination.
A pledge ceremony was held wherein participating players took oath to observe true spirit of sportsmanship and discipline.
In kho-kho Under-14 girls, Govt Middle Shchool Agharballian trounced Trikuta Shiksha Niketan Reasi by (10-06), while in kho-kho Under-17 girls; Trikuta Shiksha Niketan Reasi defeated Govt. HS Kotli by (10-09).
In kabaddi Under-14 girls, Govt Girls HSS Reasi outplayed MS Panthal by (30-17), and Trikuta Shiksha Niketan Reasi defeated Govt. Lower Seela by 21-17, while in kabaddi Under-17 girls, Govt HSS Panthal defeated Girls High School Katra by 23-16 and Trikuta Siksha Niketan Reasi defeated Govt HS Aghar Jitto by 24-12 points.
In volleyball Under-17, Govt HS KambalDanga defeated Govt. HS Agharjit to by 2-1 sets and Trikuta Shiksha Niketan Reasi defeated Govt GirlsHSS Reasi by 2-0 sets.
The matches were officiated by Ashok Kumar, Ashoka Kumari, Tour Kumar, Romesh Chander, Kuldeep Raj, Manzoor Hussain and Bishambar Dass.
