Gen Bipin Rawat Memorial Cricket Tourney inaugurated

POONCH, Mar 2: The first edition of General Bipin Rawat Memorial Cricket Tournament was inaugurated by Mendhar Gunners under the aegis of Ace of Spades Gunners at OP Hill Stadium Mendhar, here today.
About 30 teams of border villages of Mendhar, Rajouri and Poonch areas are participating in this tournament which is being conducted on a knockout basis. The inaugural match of the tournament was played between Dream-XI and XI Star Gursai team.
Mendhar Gunners Commanding Officer inaugurated the tournament. Speaking on the occasion, he encouraged the youth to actively participate in various sports competitions.
The cricket tournament is being organized by Mendhar youth led by Pankaj Sharma and Balram Sharma, president Sanatan Dharam Sabha Mendhar in assistance with Mendhar Gunners to create a conducive atmosphere for youth. He also expressed hope that the youth of Mendhar may join UT or national teams in the future.
The tournament is being organised to pay homage to the late CDS General Bipin Rawat and is a testimony of Indian Army’s commitment to provide a platform to the youth of J&K, so that they can showcase their hidden talent and channelise their energy in a positive manner.
