JAMMU, July 1: In order to prepare 6th semester college students for upcoming exams, Government Degree Colleges of Jammu province organised online quiz as well as poetry competitions.
Department of EVS, Government Degree College Akhnoor organised online inter-collegiate quiz competition on the topic “Environmental Hazards Concept and Managements” for 6th semester students to make familiar about new mode of examination (MCQ), recently announced by University of Jammu.
The quiz was based on MCQ and was prepared strictly according to the syllabus framed by the University of Jammu. 174 students from 14 different institutions across the UT of J&K participated.
The participants who scored more than 70 percent marks were given e-certificates. The whole event was organized by Prof Shivani Sharma (Co-ordinator) under the overall supervision of College Principal, Dr Namarta.
Vansh Gupta of GDC Akhnoor bagged 1st position, 2nd position was shared by Rajat Kumar Uttam and Sheetal Sharma of GDC Akhnoor whereas Anamika Sharma, Ankit Khajuria and Shivali Sharma of GDC Akhnoor and Sonika Sharma of Guru Nanak Dev University shared 3rd position.
Department of English, Govt Degree College Doda conducted Union Territory level online poetry competition in collaboration with Indian Academic Researchers Association (JK Wing).
The competition was organised under the guidance and patronage of Commissioner /Secretary to Higher Education Department J&K, Talat Parvez Rohilla and Principal of the College, Dr Shafqat Hussain Rafiqi. HoD English, Prof Falak was the convener of the event whereas Dr Jamsheed Ahmad was the chief organiser.
Around 220 poems were received from different parts of the Union Territory.
In the first step of the event, a team of faculty members comprising Dr Attied Khawar Balwan, Dr Farooq Ahmed and Mohd Abbas thoroughly checked and shortlisted the top 20 poems. Thereafter, the shortlisted poems were sent to three judges for the final judgement.
Mehar Fatima of GCW Parade Jammu, Faisal Nazir of Luthra Public School Jammu and Suvaida Ayoub of GDC Kulgam bagged 1st, 2nd and 3rd positions respectively.
Five consolation positions were secured by Anjali Sharma of GCW Gandhinagar, Shifa Hanief Sheikh of Amar Singh College Srinagar, Himani Gupta of BBSVP Udhampur, Hanan Rasool of MAM College Jammu and Syed Zameer of Bhaderwah Campus (University of Jammu). E-certificates and cash prizes were awarded to the first three position holders.
