UDHAMPUR, Aug 27: The five-day long translators’ “Orientation Programme for Knowledge Text Translation into Dogri” concluded today at Government Degree College Udhampur.
Organized by National Translation Mission of Central Institute of Indian Languages, Government of India in collaboration with the Internal Quality Assurance Cell of the College, the programme had Dr S S Baloeria, Vice Chancellor, Central University of Jammu, as the chief guest.
In his address, Dr Baloeria observed that global treasure of wisdom and knowledge is shared with other cultures only through translation and it is not a recent but age-old process. As NTM has started to take up translation of knowledge texts into Dogri many words that are losing their existence will re-live, he said.
Earlier Principal Dr N K Resutra, in his welcome address, said that NTM has a dynamic vision and the college is always there to support the cause of Dogri. Innovation is our catch-word and this program is a part of this vision, he added.
Prof Sudhir Singh Convenor IQAC and Local Coordinator of the program presented a detailed report of the five-day proceedings.
An enchanting Dogri folk song was also presented on the occasion by the college students.
Fifty scholars from various disciplines and subjects having knowledge of Dogri who were drawn from various Institutions of education like University, Colleges, DIET, Schools, Media, Banks, Industry and civil society were registered. Thirteen resource persons interacted with the participants. Three language experts Desh Bhandu Dogra Nutan, a renowned writer of Dogri, Parkash Premi, and Prof Tara Nath, Principal Govt. Degree College Jindrah remained throughout the sessions and illuminated the participants as and when required.
