JAMMU, Aug 20: Government Degree College (GDC) Samba defeated SPMR College of Commerce by 2.5- 1.5 points in the ongoing Inter-Collegiate Chess Championship, being organized by the Directorate of Sports and Physical Education at University of Jammu, here.
Debanshu Sambyal (GDC Samba) beat Nikhil Heer, Neeraj Singh (GDCV Samba) beat Rohit Sharma and Vikas Singh Sambyal (GDC Samba) lost to Atul Singh.
The match between Janish Jai Manyal of GDC Samba and Vivek Sharma of Commerce College ended in a draw.
In another match, GDC Udhampur beat Govt. MAM College by 4-0 points. Shivang Gupta beat Puneet Nahar, Abhinav Prashar got better of Sahil Mahajan, Rahul Sharma (Sr.) trounced Parveen Sharma and Rahul Sharma( Jr.) prevailed over Rajesh Kumar.
In women’s section, in the 1st semifinal match PG Department outclassed GDC Kathua by 2.5 – 1.5 points. Sanmeet Kour (PG Dept. JU) beat Pallv, Ravleen Kour (PG Deptt. JU) lost to Swati Saini and Santosh Kumari (PG Deptt) was awarded walkover. The match between Anita Singh (PG Dept. JU) and Kusam Lata (GDC Kathua) ended in a draw.
In 2nd semifinal, GWC Parade drubbed GWC Gandhi Nagar by 3.5 to 0.5 points. Navneet Kour (GWC Parade) beat Sonali, Anchal Chiber (GWC Parade) trounced Priya Devi, Sushmita Jamwal (GWC Parade) beat Priyanka and the match between Hansja Sharma (GWC Parade) and Mehak Bakshi remained draw.
The final match in women’s section between GCW Parade and PG Department, JU will be played at the same venue tomorrow at 10 am.
