JAMMU, Mar 2: To bring forward the ideology of Mahatama Gandhi and his views on truth and non-violence a symposium on the topic “Relevance of Truth and Non-Violence in present Day Scenario” was organized by Govt. Degree College Kathua in collaboration with Gandhi Global Family, Jammu and Kashmir State Branch under the directions of Department of Higher Education, Govt of Jammu & Kashmir today.
Twelve participants from six Govt Degree Colleges of the district Kathua participated in the symposium and presented their ideas on Truth and Non-Violence.
The Programme started with the lightening of traditional lamp by the distinguished guests present in the function. The welcome address was presented by the Principal of the College, Dr. B. L. Gupta.
In his address Dr. Gupta appreciated the efforts of Gandhi Global Family in promulgating the Gandhian Ideology, which is the need of the day.
Eminent personality of India, Padma Shri S P Varma, a social worker and a peace activist from Jammu and Kashmir who has made exemplary contribution by spreading the message of peace in trouble-torn areas of Jammu and Kashmir was the chief guest on the occasion.
He interacted with the audience and apprised them about the functioning and basics of the Gandhi Global Family.
Dr Nater Singh, Principal, Govt Degree College, Billawar also addressed the audience and threw light on the necessity of truth and non-violence in present day era.
Nisaar Ahmad, Additional SP Kathua and Atul Kumar Gupta, ACR, Kathua also spoke on the occasion.
Dr N K Gupta, Principal GDC Bani, Prof. Dhian Singh (Retd) and N K Chandan, BDO Kathua acted as jury members during the symposium.
The first and third positions were secured by Vishal Pathania and Atika Sharma of Govt Degree College Kathua, while Shubham of Govt Degree College Hiranagar stood second in the competition. Winners of the competition were presented with cash prizes of Rs. 5000, Rs. 3000 and Rs. 2000 by Gandhi Global family and felicitated with mementos and certificates of participation by the Principal of the College, Dr B L Gupta.
The programme was compered jointly by Prof Sumanesh and Dr Deepshikha, while vote of thanks was presented by Convener of the event, Prof P K Rao.
The programme culminated with the National Anthem presented by NSS Volunteers of the College.
