GANDERBAL, Aug 23: District Ganderbal today lifted title trophy of the State Level Under-17 boys Inter District Tennis Ball Cricket Tournament at Qamaria Stadium here today.
Ganderbal defeated Kupwara in an easy contest by 60 runs in the summit clash.
Earlier, batting first, Ganderbal scored 75 runs in allotted 10 overs.
Chasing the target, Kupwara were bundled out for only 15 runs, thus lost the match by a big margin of 60 runs.
Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Dr Asgar Samoon was the chief guest on the Presentation Ceremony.
Director General Youth Services and Sports Jahangir Mir, Deputy Commissioner Ganderbal Showket Aijaz and Principal College of Physical Education, Dr Hartej Singh were also present on the occasion.
Speaking on the valedictory function, Dr Samoon said that the youth of Kashmir have immense talent which need to be nourished and channelized in a positive direction.
He said that the Youth Services and Sports Department must ensure the involvement of more youth in sports activities by providing them platform to show case their talent in a better way.
He asked the youth to get involved in various sports activities along with their educational activities.
On the occasion, Director General of Youth Services and Sports, Jahangir Mir said that sports play an important role in developing and shaping the future of the youth.
DC Ganderbal, Showket Aijaz assured that the administration will provide all help and develop sports infrastructure so that more youth will come towards sports activities.
Earlier, District Youth Services and Sports Officer Ganderbal, Noor-ul-Haq presented welcome address.
The tournament was organized by the Department of Youth Services and Sports as part of annual calendar of activities.
Later the chief guest distributed prizes and trophies among the winners and runners-up teams and participants.
Special mementos of appreciation were distributed among those who made the mega tournament a success.
The tournament was as part of annual calendar of activities by the Department of Youth Services and Sports to pick the team for national tournament to be organised under the banner of School Games Federation of India (SGFI).
