JAMMU, Oct 22: As part of their 100 district programme in 29 States and 7 UTs of the country, the National Yuva Cooperative Society (NYCS) Limited will hold GAIL Speedstar Season-II trials in three districts of Jammu and Kashmir in November and December.
“Likewise season-I held in Jammu, we have been allotted with three districts in the season-II of the GAIL Speedstar by the NYCS in their recently held North Zone meeting at New Delhi. The talent hunt will be held in Poonch, Kathua and Doda districts on different dates spread over next two months”, informed State Representative of NYCS, Opinder Sharma.
He said that the season-II of the GAIL Speedstar has been divided into five zones of North Zone, North East, Madhya Bharat, South Zone and West Zone. The activity (trials), three tier selection format, will take place on district, zone and national levels so as to shortlist 9 talented athletes from the country for specialised training aimed at 2020 and 2024 Olympics.
The trials will be held in three track events of 100 meters, 200 meters and 400 meters in two age groups of 11-14 year and 15-17 year of both boys and girls, he stated.
“The main aim of such an activity at the country level by NYCS is to search the talent at the grass root level, especially those underprivileged youth”, Rajesh Pandey, National President of NYCS was quoted as saying in the zonal meeting.
It is important to mention here that during the season-I held at MA Stadium on February 24, 7 boys and girls from the State had passed the qualifying mark and represented J&K at the national trials held in Delhi.
