JAMMU, June 26: First of its kind Friendship Cosco Ball Cricket Cup, organized by NGO ‘Swabhiman’ got underway at historic DBN Grounds, Mubarak Mandi, here.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Jammu, Atul Goel was the chief guest on this occasion, while Kapil Sharma, Joint Commissioner, Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) and Vikram Malhotra, senior Congress leader and former National general secretary, Indian Youth Congress (IYC), were the guests of honour.
The dignitaries formally inaugurated the tournament in the presence of prominent citizens of the Ward No 1.
Speaking on the occasion, SSP Jammu exhorted upon the younger generation to take part in games along with their regular studies, which, he said, would keep them healthy and active in every activity.
He also lauded the organizers, especially the “Swabhiman”, NGO for organizing the mega event.
32 teams drawn from different parts of Jammu region are taking part in this tournament, which comprises of 34 matches.
The participating teams are from Jammu city, Janipur, Nagrota, Miran Sahib, Nawanshehar, Ban Talab, Kot Bhalwal, Talab Tillo, Sidhra and Sainik Colony.. .
The first match was played between the teams of Jullaka Mohalla and Kaali Janni, wherein latter defeated former by 2 wickets,
Earlier, winning the toss and batting first, Jullaka Mohalla scored 33 runs in the stipulated 12 overs.
Chasing the target of 33 runs, the Kaali Janni team achieved the target easily in 11th over with two wickets in hand. For his superb bowling performance, Karan was adjudged man of the match.
The match was officiated by Chitarth Bhakhri and Rinku Khajuria as umpires, while Ashish Sharma was the scorer and Aman as the commentator. Rajni conducted proceedings of the event.
Prominent among those present on the occasion included Balbir Singh, president, Block Congress Committee, Ward No. 1, the chief organizer of the event; Rinku, Sunny, Raj Singh, Ram Swaroop, Govind Singh, Karan, Deepak, Sushant, Raj Rani and Rani.
