Srinagar, Oct 8: As a part of 80th Air Force Day celebrations, Air Force station Srinagar is organizing a friendly cricket match with Budgam local team (Budgam XI) on October 10, 2012 at Budgam Sports Complex here. The aim of this match is to encourage greater integration and harmony between the Air Force and the Kashmiri people. It also aims to enhance awareness about the important role of the Air Force especially in aiding the J&K Govt in times of natural calamities, disaster management and in keeping the Srinagar Airport, a vital lifeline to the Valley, open throughout the harsh snow bound winter months.
The match will be played in T-20 format. In addition to trophies and medals, there are attractive cash prizes for players. The entry would commence from 0830 hrs onwards and is free for all. RS Chib, Minister for Sports will be the chief guest. It is the first time in the Valley that Indian Air Force in taking an initiative to conduct sports affairs and interact with the local youth. This will enhance the awareness about IAF; create new bonds and goodwill amongst the Kashmiri people. It also hopes to encourage and motivate the youth to join the Indian Air Force.
