SAMBA, May 22: A five-day training programme on Disaster Management commenced today in Government Degree College (GDC) Samba.
The Programme is being organized by NSS, NCC units and Department of Sports, GDC Samba in collaboration with Deputy Controller Civil Defence, Samba.
Dr Twinkle Suri (Principal of the College), was the chief guest on the occasion whereas Naseem Akhtar, DySP, Deputy Controller Civil Defence, Samba, was the guest of honour.
Aman Singh, an instructor in Disaster Management, was the resource person. The event was also attended by around 120 students of the College.
The proceedings of the event began ceremoniously with the lighting of the lamp by the dignitaries followed by a devotional song which enthralled the audience.
During her inaugural address, Dr Twinkle Suri sensitized the students about the essence of the disaster management. She also encouraged the students to learn about techniques, mode and equipment used in managing any natural or manmade disaster.
Aman Singh spoke on the human, material, economic or environmental impacts of disasters and how the training of disaster management helps to plan, organize, coordinate and implement various measures regarding that.
Some students, NSS and NCC volunteers from the College also shared their point of view on the occasion.
The workshop was also graced by the presence of Dr Joginder Singh, Dr Rajni Sharma and Sanjeev Jamwal.
The event concluded with Dr Geeta Lakhotra (NSS, PO) delivering a formal vote of thanks to all the participants and guests.
