Mumbai, May 19:
India No. 5 Faisal Khan and Maharashtra No. 2 Hasan Badami fashioned crucial wins to enter the pre-quarter-finals of the CCI Classic Snooker Tournament here today.
With two losses and three wins behind him, Khan overcame Aditya Agrawal in a concluding Group D contest where a win was mandatory for either to qualify for the knock out. His win also paved the way for former Maharashtra junior champion Rovin D’Souza to qualify.
The story was similar in Group B, where Badami, who had three losses and a win, registered crucial back-to-back wins over Manav Panchal and Malkeet Singh in his concluding ties to qualify along with the trio he lost to – India No. 2 Kamal Chawla, India No. 7 and Maharashtra No. 1 Laxman Rawat and Manan Chandra.
The significant casualty was Siddharth Parikh who crashed to three straight defeats in Group C that dashed his hopes of entering the knock out.
Meanwhile, Group A biggies, Aditya Mehta, India No. 8 Shivam Arora and Sourav Kothari added to the excitement with big breaks.
Arora fired 122 in the opening frame against Mehta in their concluding group tie, while Mehta replied with the competition’s highest break of 129 in the fourth, and Kothari hit an unfinished 117 in his 3-1 win over Tamil Nadu based Dilip Kumar of Railways.
