SRINAGAR, July 11: Adventure seekers, athletes and jawans from all over the country participated in a run for fun namely “Ek Daud Shaheedon Ke Naam” organised to commemorate the 20th anniversary of Kargil Vijay Diwas to pay their tributes to the martyred.
The event was organised by the Leh based Fire & Fury Corps of the Indian Army and approximately 3000 participants from Indian Army, Indian Air Force, Para Military, Civil Administration, veterans, school children and other volunteers participated.
The run was held in the picturesque and challenging terrain of Leh-Ladakh. It was flagged off from Colonel Sonam Wangchuk, MVC Stadium by Lt Gen YK Joshi, GOC Fire & Fury Corps.
The run culminated at NDS Stadium, Leh after covering a distance of three kilometres.
All the participants were given caps and T-shirts for their zeal and enthusiasm.
The route for the run was through the ancient city of Leh and provided a glimpse of this historic location. Magnificent monasteries, old tombs, as well as candid colours of the gleaming sun with the backdrop of the beautiful Himalayan Mountains was a treat for the runners and a life time experience for athletes and thrill seekers alike.
The run saw large participation by the people from all walks of life and also helped in commemorating the sacrifices of the brave soldiers who overcame seemingly insurmountable odds, hostile terrain, weather and an enemy occupying dominating heights, to win the Kargil War.
