DYSS postpones sports competitions till Sept 5

JAMMU, Aug 28: The Directorate of Youth Services and Sports (DYSS), J&K, has announced the postponement of all Inter-District and Inter-Division UT-level sports competitions scheduled up to September 5, 2025, in view of the prevailing inclement weather conditions across the region.
An official order issued by Director General DYSS, Anuradha Gupta while directed that host districts shall reschedule the postponed activities in consultation with the respective Joint Directors and intimate the Directorate accordingly.
Deputy Director Central, Jitender Mishra commenting on the development, said the decision was made keeping in mind the safety of student athletes, as the region has been experiencing continuous heavy rainfall over the past several days.
“Since the authorities have already ordered the closure of schools due to the current situation, it is better not to take any risks. Moreover, several stadiums have been rendered unfit for competitions due to waterlogging and damage caused by the rains,” he added.
The Directorate has assured that new dates for the postponed competitions will be announced only after a proper assessment of weather conditions and venue readiness.
