JAMMU, Aug 20: Department of Youth Services and Sports (DYSS) organised first sports activity after two month long summer vacations.
DYSS started the sports activities again after summer vacation by organizing an Inter School Competition (under 19 boys category) of Jammu district in various disciplines including Badminton, Table Tennis, Judo, Taekwondo, Wushu, Yoga, etc at Indoor Complex, MA Stadium, GGM Science College, Mini Stadium Parade, KK Hakku Stadium and Green Fields, Gandhi Nagar.
On the opening day of the competition today, weights and registrations of about 600 boys drawn from various private and Government institutions were completed.
A major outcome after today’s registration was that a total of 16 teams are competing in the Football event of the competition and 10 teams in Basketball event for top honours.
Meanwhile, due to rains, some of the outdoor events of the competition including Hockey, Basketball, Cricket, Tennis Cricket and Soft Balls could not be carried out, while the whole competition will commence tomorrow.
Earlier, Tirth Ram, District Youth Services and Sports Officer (DYSS) declared the competition open in presence of officials of Department of Youth Services and Sports (DYSS).
While speaking, Tirth Ram exhorted on the participants to play their game with true sportsmanship. He called upon other students to participate in the sports activities, so as to keep their body physically and mentally fit.

Judo under 19:
Sourav of BSF School trounced Akshay Sharma of SMHSS in under 45 kg category.
Taekwondo under 19:
Vishal Mahotra of SP Smart beat Ashu Singh Bandral of Oriental Academy in below 46 kg category, whereas Gagandeep Singh of Oriental Academy outplayed Aman Subha of SRML Higher Secondary School.
