JAMMU, May 6: 21st Annual week-long Sports Meet of Dogra College of Education was inaugurated in its College premises, here today.
Th Gulchain Singh Charak, former Minister Govt of J&K and Chairman Dogra Educational Trust was the chief guest who declared the Meet open in a well attended function.
During the inaugural ceremony, few exhibition matches were played which included Kho Kho, Three Leg Race, Sack Race, Matka Race , One Leg Race, Crocodile Race, 100 mt Race and Tug of War.
The week long Sports Meet will have sports competitions like Volleyball, Basketball, Badminton, Athletics, Shot Put, Kho Kho, Table Tennis, Carrom and Chess etc.
Speaking on the occasion, the chief guest said that apart from imparting academic knowledge to the students, various physical activities must also be encouraged for their overall development.
Earlier, the Programme started with the lighting of traditional lamp followed by the welcome address by Sumer Singh, Convener Sports Committee. He emphasized that sports could play a major role in promoting and propagating peace with an understanding of the spirit of global participation and philosophy of sports.
Prominent among those who attended the function were Kr. Samar Dev Singh Charak, Secretary, Dogra Educational Trust, Prof. B.D. Damral Director cum Principal Dogra College of Education, Shefali Sharma, Vice Principal, Bela Thakur, Academic co-coordinator of the College. The whole programme was organized under the able guidance of Sumer Singh Sambyal, Convener Sports Committee and S Harsimran Singh, Physical Instructor, Dogra Educational Trust.
At the end, vote of thanks was presented by S Harsimran Singh, Physical Instructor, Dogra Educational Trust.
