JAMMU, Feb 24: District Mountaineering Association (DMA), Jammu will give more thrust to adventure picnics and short treks to heritage sights and less frequented spots of Jammu.
This was announced by Sonam Sidharth, DMA general secretary while announcing details of activities in Calendar of Activities of the Association for the year 2024, which was released in a function here today.
Sanjeev Gupta, Chairman of The Shri Ram Universal School and Shobha Rajput, pioneer sport climber of J&K jointly released the Calendar of Activities along with DMA president, Rakesh Goswami; general secretary, Sonam Sidharth; vice presidents-Navneet Gupta and Sushil Singh; treasurer, Shashi Kant and executive members-Sunil Chakharia, Sakshi Magotra and Anu Sharma.
Highlighting the activities to be undertaken by the Club this year, general secretary of the Association mentioned that this year the Association shall organize three trekking expeditions including one to Triund (10,000 ft) in Dhauladhar Range in Himachal Pradesh in March, Saroli meadow (9000 ft) near Jungle Gali for Junior members in May and a five day trek from Dudu to Seoj Dhar for senior members in September, 2024 besides a Heritage Trekking Programme in Kangra area of Himachal Pradesh shall also be organized for about 200 students starting from heritage week in October to December, 2024.
The Association has an ambitious plan of conducting year long coaching camps and monthly competitions for sport climbers including physically and visually challenged ones.
A UT level sport climbing competition exclusively for women shall also be conducted by the Association at sprawling buds ICSE School in the month of March, 2024 besides an Open Union Territory level sport climbing competition in October, 2024.
Another ambitious plan of the Association is to contribute towards protection and preservation of nature by planting 300 saplings in Pancheri-Moungri area in Udhampur district besides saving and caring for the natural springs and other water bodies in the area.
Rakesh Goswami, DMA president while addressing the members announced that in order to spread awareness about the importance of environment, wild life, mountains and cleanliness, the Association shall celebrate World Environment Day, Wild Life Week, International Mountain Day and Swachh Bharat Abhiyan.
