Divyam becomes men’s champion, Jhanvi lifts double title

JAMMU, Dec 14: Toppling strong contender Jayesh by (3-1) in the summit clash, promising peddler Divyam became men’s singles champion, while talented Jhanvi drubbed Shreya and Shazar to lift junior girls and women’s singles titles respectively in the 35th State Table Tennis Championship which concluded, here today.
Additional Director General of Police (ADGP), SM Sahai was the chief guest on the valedictory function, who distributed prizes among the winners and runners-up peddlers on the occasion.
Earlier, in junior girls, Jhanvi defeated Shreya (3-0) by (11-6, 11-7, 11-2), while in junior boys, Sunpreet Singh drubbed Ritvik Gupta (3-1) by (8-11, 11-9, 11-6, 11-8).
In sub junior boys, Ritvik Gupta defeated Mandeep Singh (3-0) by (15-13, 11-8, 14-12), while in youth boys, Jayesh outplayed Ritvik Gupta (3-0) by (11-6, 11-5, 11-3).
Meanwhile, in men’s singles final, Divyam got better of Jayesh in a close contest by (3-1) with the scores reading as (11-9, 11-9, 9-11, 12-10), while in women’s singles final, Jhanvi beat Shazar (3-2) by (11-4, 4-11, 11-6, 5-11, 11-6) and in veteran singles, IP Singh prevailed over S Mathews (3-1) by (11-9, 11-7, 11-8).
The Championship was partly sponsored by Power Grid Corporation of India Limited.
Prominent among others present on the occasion were JB Singh, joint secretary J&K State Sports Council, VK Magoo, working president JKTTA, Kuldeep Handoo, Meenu, S Mathews, Abdul Qayoom, Rajan Sharma, Ravi Singh, Sheetal Gandotra, Saleem Bandey, Sanjay Gupta, Sunil Sharma, Satbir Singh, Narinder Singh and Maninder Singh.
