JAMMU, Oct 15: District level Sports Competitions under Khelo India 2018-19 in nine sports disciplines were declared open by Sanjeev Verma, Divisional Commissioner, Jammu and Dr SD Singh Jamwal, Inspector General of Police Jammu in an impressive function held at Indoor Sports Complex, MA Stadium, here today.
Ramesh Sharma, District Development Commissioner, Jammu and Zorawar Singh, General Secretary, Press Club Jammu also graced the occasion with their presence.
The disciplines in which the competitions are being held in Jammu district include Table Tennis, Boxing, Athletics, Handball, Hockey, Judo, Kho-Kho, Volleyball and Weight-Lifting.
Khelo India competition is going to be held in eighteen disciplines organized by different Sports Associations and J&K State Sports Council in all the districts of Jammu Province from October 15 to October 31, 2018.
Prominent office bearers of the Associations along with the participants of all the nine disciplines were present during the inaugural ceremony.
The function was held under the overall supervision of Divisional Sports Officer, Ravi Singh.
Ashok Singh, Manager MA Stadium Jammu; SP Singh, Manager Mini Stadium Parade; Satish Gupta, Manager Indoor Sports Complex, Jammu along with almost all the coaches of J&K State Sports Council posted in District Jammu, besides other officials and the Ground Staff of Council were present on the opening ceremony.
Vikram Handa General, General Secretary of Basketball Association conducted the proceedings of the function.
Earlier, Chief Sports Officer Jammu presented the welcome address.
Divisional Commissioner Jammu and other dignitaries interacted with the players and officials on the occasion.
After declaring the Khelo India Games open, Divisional Commissioner, Jammu and Inspector General of Police Jammu also visited Table-Tennis Hall and Basketball Court to formally declare the competition open the respective competition before leaving the venue.
Meanwhile, Hockey U-17 years age group matches began at KK Hakku Astroturf Stadium, here.
In the first match played today, MRS Club Simbal Camp defeated APS Kalu Chack School, while in the second match, Akali Kour Singh Hockey Club Digiana drubbed Bhargava Hockey Club Gadi Garh and in the third match, Champion Hockey Club defeated Deshmesh Hockey Club Nanak Nagar.
