JAMMU, May 8: Inter School District Level Tournam-ents for boys in the sports disciplines of Basketball, Handball and Throw Ball Under-14 and Under-17 years for the year 2018-19 of District Jammu got underway at MA Stadium and Dogra Ground, Shastri Nagar, here today.
In all, 457 boys drawn from 14 Zones of Jammu District are taking part in the competitions.
The competitions are being organised by Department of Youth Services & Sports under the patronage of Shiekh Fayaz Ahmad, Director General and under the overall supervision of Madan Lal, Joint Director.
Chanchal Kour, DYSSO Jammu is the Organising Secretary of the tournament.
The main objective of the competitions is to select the teams of Jammu District for Inter District Division Level Competitions.
In Under-17 Boys Basketball, St. Francis Akhnoor beat Army Public School Sunjwam by 20-12 points; Sainik School Nagrota crushed MIER by 24-0 points and Jodhamal Public School drubbed DPS by 18-03 points, while in Under-14 Boys Basketball, Sainik School Nagrota defeated APS Domana by 19 -04 points and Jodhamal Public School got the better of APS Jammu Cantt by 6-4 points.
In Under-17 Boys Throw Ball, KC International School outplayed Celestial Mission High School RS Pura in an easy contest.
In Under-17 Boys Handball, Govt High School Cit6y Chowk defeated St. Peters High School BC Road by 6 goals (13-7); APS Domana beat Rainbow School by 7 goals and Tagore Memorial HSS trounced Heritage School by 4 goals.
In Under 17 Handball quarterfinal, Govt. High School Pull Tawi beat GHS City Chowk by 10 goals.
In Under-14 Boys Handball, Heritage School defeated St Francis HSS Akhnoor by 5 goals.
The matches were officiated by Om Parkash, Vishal Bharti, Mousami, Mulkh Raj, sunny Dogra, Anil Dogra, Vikram and Gourav.
Meanwhile, organized by the Department of Youth Services and Sports, the Inter School Tournament of Hiranagar Zone in the discipline of Football for under-14 and under-17 years girls begun at Sports Stadium Hiranagar.
The Tournament is being organized under the overall supervision of District Youth Services and Sports Officer Kathua, Subash Chander Bhardwaj and supervision of Zonal Physical Education Officer, Yog Raj Sharma.
A total of 60 players of four schools of zone Hiranagar participated wherein Government Girls High School Hiranagar and Government Model Middle School Hiranagar won the under-17 and under-14 years Football trophies respectively.
Prominent among those present on the occasion were Sudha Jasrotia, Subash Chander, Joginder Kumar Khajuria and Kulbhushan Kumar.
The Department of Youth Services and Sports organised Inter School Tournament in the disciplines of Kho-Kho, Kabaddi, Volleyball, Cricket and Wrestling of Akhnoor Zone at Govt Boys Higher Secondary School Akhnoor under the supervision of Sher Singh, ZPEO Akhnoor.
St Francis HSS Akhnoor won Under-14 and Under-17 Kabaddi titles, while HSS Sohal and CBHS bagged Volleyball Under-14 and Under-17 titles respectively.
The Zonal Level Inter-School Tournaments were also held in Bishnah and RS Pura Zones, under the supervision of at Govt Boys HSS Bishnah and Govt Girls Middle School RS Pura respectively.
At Bishnah, the tournament was held under the chairmanship of Yashpal Sharma, Principal Govt HSS Boys Bishnah and under the supervision of Jeet Singh, Zonal Physical Education Officer Bishnah.
At RS Pura Zone, ZEO RS Pura Kamla Devi was the chief guest on the concluding function, while Parshotam Lal Dubey was the guest of honour.
160 students participated in the girls section, while 260 student players took part in boys section events.
