District Level Inter-School Competitions get underway

JAMMU, Aug 23: The District Level Inter-School Competitions in the disciplines of hockey, handball, softball, rope skipping, jump rope for Under-19 girls and swimming and tennis ball cricket for Under-19 boys got underway at various venues, here today.
As part of Annual Calendar of Activities, the Competitions are being organized by the Department of Youth Services and Sports, under the patronage of Director General Youth Services and Sports, Navin Agarwal and under the supervision of Ved Parkash, Deputy Director Jammu and Sukhdev Raj, DYSSO, Jammu. Kanchan Bala, Deputy Director Youth Services and Sports visited the venues to inspect the arrangements.
In hockey Under-19 girls, HSS Mubarak Mandi drubbed SOS Gole Gujral by 3-2 to win the title, with Tania and Gargi being the star performers, while in handball Under-19 girls final, HSS Mubarak Mandi defeated BSF Paloura by (7-3), with Karuna Gupta and Sabrat Javed being the main goal scorers.
The hockey matches were officiated by Harvinder Singh, Jagjeet Singh, Mandeep Singh and Gurmeet Singh, while the handball matches were officiated by Harcharan Singh, Gourav, Sanjay, Jyoti, Kartar and Joginder Sharma.
The softball Under-19 girls’ title was claimed by BSF School Paloura by defeating HSS Domana by (7-4) homes, while in swimming Under-19 girls, the gold medal winners included Garima and Meherin of KC Public and Bhavpreet of Jodhamal School, while in rope skipping Under-19 girls, Mehak of APS Domana, Nivi Manhas of KC Gurukul, Riya Bakshi of APS Domana and Sheiya of KC Gurukul bagged gold in various events, besides a gold claimed by Saijal, Nandita, Nitakshi and Tama of Peoples Academy in relay 4×3 sec time trial.
Meanwhile in swimming Under-19 boys, Ahmed Ikram of DPS won gold in 100 meter free style and 50 mtr back stroke; Pranshu Kabra of Heritage School bagged gold in 200 mtr free style and 400 mtr free style; Hardik Khajuria of Jodhamal claimed gold in 50 mtr breast stroke and 200 mtr breast stroke; Vishesh of Jodhamal won gold in 100 mtr back stroke, while Abhishek and Kinshuk, both of KC Public School won gold in 100 mtr breast stroke and 50 mtr butter fly respectively.
The swimming competition was officiated by Ajay Pal Gill, Omeshwar and Kamal Singh.
In tennis ball cricket Under-19 boys, SRML got better of Jodhamal School in a thrilling contest by 1 run, while in the semifinals, Jodhamal beat MIER by 25 runs and SRML defeated CB HSS by 8 wickets.
