JAMMU, May 2: District Jammu represented by Jodhamal School lifted overall trophy, while District Samba emerged runners-up and Udhampur won third place in the 2-days Vishal Sharma Memorial Wushu Championship, which concluded at Indoor Hall, MA Stadium, here today.
Over 500 participants drawn from various districts and schools took part in the Championship.
It is pertinent to mention here that Late Vishal Sharma was the founder of Wushu in J&K and first ever medalist from the State at National Arena. He was also the founder of Taekwondo in J&K. He had the honour of being the Joint Secretary of Wushu Association of India.
Earlier, 2 minutes silence was observed to pay homage to the departed soul on the occasion.
ADGP H K Lohia was the chief guest on the valedictory function, who distributed prized among the winners.
Prominent among others present on the occasion were Sheikh Ishfaaq Jabaar, Ranjeet Kalra, Deepak Handa, Sunil Sharma, Rajinder Dogra, Sanjay Ratra, Vipin Sharma, Pawan, Rajan Sharma, Ravi Singh, Charan Singh Slathia, Kamal Kishore, Lalit Singh Manhas, Abhishek, Ruchi Verma, Pankaj and Rajinder.
Kuldeep Handoo, general secretary of the Association informed that four J&K players namely Arun Singh Charak, Pradeep Singh, Raj Singh Narania and Sunil Atri have been selected for National Wushu Camp at Bhopal for the preparation of the Indian team for the 17th Asian Games to be held at Incheon in Korea.
The gold medal winners included Sonam, Harspreet Kour, Bulbul, Aadya, Gurpreet, Ananya, Shivani, Mansi, Rupali, Neha, Riya, Muskan, Shivani, Diksha, Roma and Poonam.
