JAMMU, Dec 18: District Jammu Boxing Championship, being organized by Jammu and Kashmir Boxing Association, under the aegis of J&K State Sports Council, got underway at Boxing Ring, MA Stadium, here today.
Around 100 boxers in various weight and age categories are participating in the Championship, which was inaugurated by Dr Nirmolak Singh, Senior Sports Medicine Specialist.
Earlier, before the start of the event, 2 minutes silence was observed to pay homage to the young souls who lost their lives in the barbaric incident in a School at Peshawar in Pakistan.
In 46 to 49 kg, Ghar Singh won gold and Rajinder Singh bagged silver, while bronze was shared by Ankush Sharma and Anshuman Khajuria.
In 49 to 52 kg, Sunil Sharma and Rahul Sharma bagged gold and silver respectively, while in 52 to 56 kg, Sunny Kumar clinched gold, Pawan Singh bagged silver, while Goutam Sharma and Amit Chib claimed bronze medals.
In 56 to 60 kg, Abinash Kumar and Gourav Kumar won gold and silver respectively, while Haridesh Singh and Sahil Rana shared bronze medal.
The gold medal in 60 to 64 kg was bagged by Chander Dev Singh, while Deepak Chowdhary won silver. Anil Chib and Deepak Arora claimed bronze in this category.
