Director Sports inaugurates Chess competitions

BUDGAM, Mar 9: Director Youth Services and Sports J&K, Gazanfar Ali inaugurated Inter-District UT level competitions in Chess at Sports Stadium Budgam, today.
While interacting with the participating students, the Director advised the participants to prove their metal in the game and sport of their choice. He also highlighted the importance of sports for all-round development of a person and said that indoor games like Chess help players in developing strong memory skills. “The habit of mind, careful contemplation and planning is one of the cognitive health benefits of playing chess” he added.
He further stated that sports bring people together and help in developing problem-solving skills.
It is pertinent to mention here that the competitions in Chess are being organised for under-17 and under-19 years All Age Group boys, wherein about 150 students selected from different districts of the UT are taking part in the game and 23 officials have been deputed to conduct the event successfully.
Prominent among others who were present at the opening ceremony of the tournament include District Youth Services and Sports Officer Budgam, Masarat Jan and Mohammad Yousf.
