Director Finance inaugurates inter-collegiate Kabaddi tournament

KATHUA, Apr 29: Director Finance, Higher Education, Abdul Majid Butt inaugurated the District level inter-collegiate Kabaddi (M&W) tournament, organized by the Department of Physical Education Govt. Degree College Kathua, here today.
In this tournament, 13 teams including four women teams from different colleges are participating.
During the inaugural ceremony, Abdul Majid was given guard of honour by the students of NCC units of GDC Kathua on his arrival to this premier Institute. The formal introduction of the tournament was given by the Physical Director Dr J S Soodan.
College Principal, Prof. Seema Mir presented a formal welcome to Director Finance by presenting a bouquet and apprised about the different sporting activities carried out in the College.
The Principal also felicitated the Director Finance in presence of other faculty members.
The chief guest in his address congratulated the College faculty and the participating students for organizing and participating in this mega sports event and highlighted that the Government is also trying his best to promote sports culture in the country.
He said that the Government has framed a policy to introduce sports in academics and assured all possible help will be provided from the Department for the overall development of the College.
GDC Kathua defeated GCW Kathua by 15 points in the opening match in women category, while in men category, GDC Kathua defeated GDC Billawar in straight matches by the lead of 14 points and GDC Basohli defeated GDC Hiranagar by 13 points.
In the finals, GDC Kathua defeated GCW Kathua by 13 points in the women’s category and clinched the final trophy. The winner and runners up trophies were given by Prof. Seema Mir to the winners and runners up teams.
In the men ‘s category, GDC Basohli defeated GDC Kathua by 02 points and won the final trophy.
