JAMMU, Mar 18: Shakeel Ahmed Beig, DIG Jammu-Samba-Kathua Range inaugurated 2nd Christmas T20 Cricket Cup in an impressive and well attended function at KC Sports Club ground, here today.
The tournament is being jointly organized by J&K Police under the Civic Action Programme and Christian Sports organization (CSO), J&K.
Fr Kuriakose, Chairman, CSO and Sudharshan Mahajan, Chairman KC Public School were the guests of honour.
DIG Jammu while releasing the fixture on the occasion, said that sports activities are given priority in all the countries as such activities keep the young generation physically and mentally fit and also keeps them away from drug abuses, besides promoting peace and harmony.
DIG Jammu said that 16 cricket teams are participating in the Tournament including 1 from Delhi and 3 from Srinagar.
Mr Beig urged upon the players to participate in the tournament with true sportsman spirit.
He further said that the tournament matches will be held at the same ground and the closing ceremony will be held on March 29, 2014, wherein Rajesh Kumar, IGP Jammu will be the chief guest.
DIG Jammu was accompanied by Rajnish Pran, SP SO to DIG Jammu; Parshotam Sharma, DDP; Rajesh Gill, Chief Prosecuting Officer and Coordinator Organizing Committee; Prashant Mahajan, CPO Range Police Hqrs and SDPO Domana.
The proceedings of the programme were conducted by Rajesh Dhar, convener technical committee of the Tournament.
Prominent among others present on the occasion were Sanjay Mahajan, MD Atman College; Amarendra Mishra, Principal KC Public School; Nicodemus, President Christian United Federation; Asif Gill, Joint Secretary Christian Sports Organization; William Matoo, Sports Secretary Christian Sports Organization and Sandeep Singh, captain Jammu Gymkhana Cricket Club.
In the inaugural matches played today, Atman Sports Club defeated Bathindi Cricket Club, while Star Cricket Club got better of Sai Cricket Club.
