SRINAGAR, Dec 9: Deputy Inspector General Central Kashmir Range Afhadul Mujtaba distributed prizes among the winners who qualified for Zonal level Carom and Chess Championship competition to be held later in the month.
A police spokesman said Range level Carom and Chess Championship organized by police in collaboration with J&K Social Spirit Trust was today held in DPL Srinagar.
The Range level Carom and Chess Championship is in continuity to District level championship that were held in the districts of Leh, Kargil, Ganderbal, Srinagar and Budgam of Central Kashmir Range.
The winners of the District level championship competed for Range Level titles.
Forty players participated in the championship in two categories of boys and girls. In Carom championship Boys category, Mohammad Yaqoob defeated Waseem Bashir to clinch the Range title, while as in Carom the girls category Insha Afzal was declared the winner defeating Iram Rafiq.
In Chess championship Mehraj-u-Din Meerani was declared winner and Zameer Ahmad was declared runner-up in the boys category. In girls category, Farhana Mehraj lifted the range title trouncing Shafaqat Rashid in the finals.
The winners of the district level championship participated in the range level championship.
Mujtaba said police has taken up both outdoor as well as indoor games that have now become a regular and annual event features. This tournament is a bid in this direction as this event was also organized last year too.
