JAMMU Dec 22: District Development Commissioner Jammu, Ramesh Kumar today reviewed the functioning of Training Centre of the Sports Authority of India, Jammu (STC) here at a meeting of its management committee.
While appreciating the efforts put in by the SAI to nurture sports talent in J&K, the DC advised the centre to broad base its process of talent identification and conduct induction trials for the sportspersons of remote areas in coordination with the J&K State Sports Council and department of youth services and sports. He assured all logistic support by the administration for conduct of these trials.
The DDC directed to constitute a sub- committee comprising officers of SAI, J&KSSC and district administration for the identification of land within Jammu city for the construction of hostel facility for the STC. He also directed Secretary Sports Council to allot adequate alternate accommodation to STC at KK Hakhu Stadium till the renovation work of the MA stadium was going on.
DDC also asked the Secretary Sports Council to approach SAI authorities for the inclusion of volleyball and swimming as disciplines in the STC. Secretary Sports Council assured the DDC that land could be allocated to STC within the MA stadium complex for construction of a hostel if the funds were provided by the latter.
DDC asked officers of the STC to work in close coordination with J&KSSC, Department of Youth services and Sports to achieve the common objective of identifying and nurturing sports talent across the state and for positive engagement of youth through sports.
