DDC inaugurates Khelo India competitions

REASI, Dec 24: District Development Commissioner (DDC), Dr Sagar Doifode Dattatray today inaugurated inter-block district level Khelo India Games at Shrine Board Sports Stadium, Katra here today. SSP Reasi, Nisha Nathyal was the guest of honour.
The five-day sports event began with a Volleyball match between teams of block Pouni and Dharmari in which the former beat the latter in a close contest.
The games commenced with colourful dance performances by students from various schools.
Over 100 students competed today in which girls teams from Pouni-A, Reasi-B and Pouni-B took the top spots.
Among boys, Pouni-B, Pouni-A and Arnas teams were the top three champions.
While highlighting their significance, the DDC said that sports have traditionally been part of our culture from Mahabharat times, adding in addition to good health, sports also help increase competitiveness in youth and direct them away from social evils like drugs.
He also assured full support on part of the district administration in setting up more infrastructure for sports activities. DDC Sagar also thanked district officers, the spotters and everybody involved in organising the event.
SSP Reasi, while lauding the role of female atheletes on international platforms, called upon the local girls to give their best. She also expressed her desire to see girls from the district shine at international championships.
Those present at the inaugural ceremony also included ACD Reasi, Sunil Sharma; CEO MC Katra, Jagdish Mehra; CEO, Nirmal Choudhary; DIO NIC, Asheesh Dogra; Director Sports, SMVDSB Sports Complex, Ashok Kumar; DYSSO Reasi, Sudesh Kumar; Sports Spotters, Naresh Kumar and Rahul Bakshi among others.
Starting with Volleyball matches today, Kabaddi, Wrestling, Football and Athletics events will be held on each successive day of the five-day games.
