SRINAGAR, Sept 22: Deputy Development Commissioner, Anantnag, Farooq Ahmed Lone in presence of Director Tourism, Talat Parvez, flagged off a cycle race at Verinag today.
Chief Executive Officer, Verinag Development Authority, Nazir Ahmed Thakur who had organised the race in collaboration with Tourism Department, Sports Development Association, Tour and Travel organisation was present on the occasion.
The cycle race which was flagged off from Verinag will pass through Laskipora, Ashmuqam and will stay for night at Pahalgam to move to Srinagar next day.
46 cyclists participating in this event belong to Delhi, Chandigarh, Haryana, and Madhya Pradesh including Jammu and Kashmir State.
The motive of the Race is to promote tourism in Jammu and Kashmir and to attract tourists not only at national level but globally.
On this occasion, Director Tourism asked the participants’ to take the venture seriously and work for promotion of communal harmony and strengthening of democratic fabric of the Country. Calling the cyclists the ambassadors of peace and tranquillity the Director said that such events bring economic revolution besides giving the participants an opportunity to learn about the culture, language and civilization of the States they pass through.
