JAMMU, Nov 23: After scalping 5 important wickets in the first innings, speedster Dasarath Kumar of Assam wreaked havoc rather spitted venom to make 7 J&K batsmen victims of his venomous speed and swing in the second innings and plot their collapse for a paltry total of 31 runs to help Assam register a big 5-wicket victory over the hosts in a match of the ongoing Cooch Behar Under-19 Trophy 2019 at GGM Science College Hostel ground, here today.
Earlier, after resuming their first innings from an overnight total of 41/3 on day-2 of the 4-day match, Assam lost their remaining wickets at regular intervals to be bundled out for 125 runs in 36.5 overs to concede a lead of 69 runs to Jammu and Kashmir. Abdul Ajij top scored with 28 runs off 34 balls, studded with 4 fours and one six, while Amlanjyoti Das and Bishal Saha contributed 18 and 16 runs to the total respectively. From Jammu and Kashmir, medium pacers Mujtaba Yousuf and Basit Bashir took 3 wickets each by conceding 33 and 39 runs respectively in their 13 overs each. Right-arm leg-spinner Abhay Tandon took 2 wickets, while off-spinner Marutwan and Abdul Samad claimed 1 wicket each.
J&K were bundled out for a meagre total of 31 runs in their second essay as all the batsmen failed to apply. Musaif Ajaz was the only batsman to cross double figure mark, scoring 14 runs off 19 balls with 2 fours. From Assam, Dasarath Kumar stole the show with his artistic seam bowling. He took 7 wickets by giving away just 10 runs in his 10.3 overs, while another medium pacer Bibhakar Nag took 3 wickets by conceding 20 runs in his 9 overs.
With first innings lead of 69 runs, J&K set a target of 101 runs for Assam.
Assam batsmen played sensibly in their second innings on a difficult surface and reached the target in 27.4 overs, losing 5 wickets in the process to win the match by 5 wickets. Denish Das top scored with 25 runs, while Nibir Deka contributed 21 runs to the total. From J&K, Mujtaba Yousuf and Abhay Tandon took 2 wickets each, while Basit Bashir claimed one wicket.
Jammu and Kashmir will face Tripura in the next match at Agartala on November 29, 2019.
