Cyclist Bhawar sweats-it-out for noble cause

JAMMU, July 8: With a mission to eradicate dowry and female foeticide from the society, Bhausaheb Bhawar of Village Hasnabad in Jalna district of Maharashtra, sweats-it-out on his cycle for hours together every day.
Bhawar has started this mission in the year 1993 and is leaving no stone unturned in making the people understand the need of eradicating dowry and female foeticide through his awareness campaign.
42-year old Bhawar covers a distance of 40 to 50 kilometers every day for this noble cause.
From 1993 to 2006, Bhawar did three missionary tours across the country and with a break of an year, he went for his mission again in 2007 and is presently on his 5th tour across the country.
Sharing his experience with EXCELSIOR, the missionary cyclist said that it is his second appearance in Jammu and Kashmir as he had earlier visited the State in 2009, when he had the privilege of meeting Governor N N Vohra, who lauded his efforts for the noble cause.
He said that on his last tour he visited Valley and went to Leh in Ladakh with the awareness campaign, but on this trip he is aiming to travel to Rajouri and Poonch districts.
I interact with around 100 people every day including youth, who are energetic, expressive and have better understanding of the harmful consequences of dowry.
“I believe that a drastic change will take place in the society with regard to awareness about the social evils and female folk will lead from the front in fighting for their rights,” expressed Bhawar.
He added that he had started the mission in early 90s after his sister’s in-laws had demanded for a dowry, which had forced them to settle her marriage with some another as they could hardly afford to pay the amount demanded.
Finally, he said that he is not here to promote the sport of cycling as cycle is only a medium to promote his mission.
