*Sahai awards winner, runner-up teams

JAMMU, June 28: Aiming to win the title of Ist Mahant Bachittar Singh Gold Cup Hockey Tournament, being organized by Mahant Bachittar Singh Hockey Club, Makhanpur Simbal under the aegis of Hockey J&K at Government High School, Simbal Camp here, Hiranagar Hockey Club eves went down fighting and lost to confident MBS Club by 2-0.
In a hard fought match between the two teams here today, MBS Hockey Club took lead in the 15th minute from a penalty corner through the brilliant efforts of Jaspreet Singh.
The Hiranagar Club made some good moves in their circle and showed a very safe and intense game play giving a tough competition to the opposition.
The first quarter saw tremendous action as both the teams stepped on the ground with more passion and attacked each other halves.
High-spirited MBS Club eves showed willingness to attack and continuously looked forward to the counter-attack as quickly as they can.
However, Jaspreet Singh of MBS Club skillfully smashed the ball hard into the box from a penalty corner during the 15th minute of the first quarter.
Hiranagar Club eves failed to equalize the scorecard and at the end of first half, MBS Club was leading with 1-0.
In the second half, the two teams played with better strategies and maintained control over the ball. It was MBS Club who managed to force a goal in the 37th minute which was executed successfully by Ramandeep Singh who dexterously struck the goal post to raise the scores to 2-0.
While MBS Club maintained its dominance on the match, Hiranagar Club continued to attack aggressively to convert scoring opportunities, but all their attempts went in vain.
Hiranagar Club Captain Romy navigated the ball well and created numerous chances, while goalkeeper Ajay produced some outstanding saves to deny the MBS Club from scoring any further goals but the game went in favour of MBS Hockey Club who defeated Hiranagar Club by 2-0.
On the valedictory function, ADGP Armed SM Sahai was the chief guest, who gave cash prize of Rs 5100 and memento to winning team and Rs 3,100 cash prize and trophy to runner up team in presence of SP Headquarters Randheer Singh, Rajinder Singh, treasurer, Hockey India, GS Bakshi, Tournament Director, Jaspreet Singh, Organising Secretary, Rajinder Singh, Sarpanch, Kanwarpreet Singh Sagar and large number of sports lovers and spectators.
Mr Sahai also presented man of the match award to Randeep Singh of MBS Hockey Club for his excellent performance during the match.
The match was officiated by Daljeet Singh, Jagjeet Singh, Joginder Singh, Gurmeet Singh and Karanjeet Singh.
