Commonwealth Chess C’ship commences, 13 J&K players to compete with rivals

JAMMU, June 22: Thirteen players from Jammu and Kashmir will compete with their rivals in the Commonwealth Chess Championship, which commenced today at New Delhi. The Championship is being organized by All India Chess Federation.
On the occasion, Ashok Chouhan, Chairman, Amity Group of Educational Institutions was the chief guest, who inaugurated the 8-days long Championship in presence of Atul Kumar Gupta, Joint Secretary, All India Chess Federation and President, All J&K Chess Association, who was the guest of honour. The special guests on the occasion were DV Sunder, Vice President, World Chess Federation and Bharat Singh Chouhan, President, Commonwealth Chess Federation.
In the championship, 560 players from 12 countries including 30 players from Pakistan are participating.
The thirteen players from J&K participating in the Championship are Vilakshan Mehta, Kavish Gupta, Aditya Mahajan, Sumit Grover, Pranav Sharma, Ritwik Nanda, Meenal Gupta, Arushi Kotwal, Anshul Mahajan, Dewang Gupta, Soham Kamotra, Soham Gupta and Kanav Gupta.
Total Cash Prizes to be distributed among the winners is Rs 10,00,000.   The medal winners will be referred to as Commonwealth Medalists.
The tournament will be conducted as per FIDE Laws of Chess and FIDE Swiss System with 10 rounds.
Gold, Silver and Bronze medals will be awarded in Open, Women, Senior (Above 60 years), Under-20 (Boys and Girls), Under-18 (Boys and Girls), Under-16 (Boys and Girls), Under-14 (Boys and Girls), Under-12 (Boys and Girls), Under-10 (Boys and Girls) and Under-8 (Boys and Girls) categories.
