Bowlers, Rasool, Pundir help J&K thrash Services by 173 runs

JAMMU, Jan 14: Splendid show by almost all the bowlers coupled with all-round display by skipper Parvez Rasool and a special unbeaten ton by Shubham Singh Pundir helped Jammu and Kashmir to thrash Services by a big margin of 173 runs in the Ranji Trophy Elite Group-C match against Services at Palam A Stadium, New Delhi, today.
Jammu and Kashmir after setting a target of 320 runs for Services, bundled the opposition out for 146 runs in their second innings to register a huge victory.
Earlier, on day four today, resuming from an overnight score of 184/5, Jammu and Kashmir added 17 more runs to the total, scoring 201/5 to declare their innings, setting a target of 320 runs for Services. Shubham Singh Pundir, who was unbeaten on 90 runs, scored a magnificent unbeaten century (102) off 186 balls with 13 fours and one six, while Fazil Rashid remained unbeaten on 30 off 97 balls, hitting 3 boundaries. Rasool was another major contributor who scored 45 runs off 67 balls, studded with 6 fours. From Services, Diwesh Gurdev Pathania took 3 wickets by conceding 55 runs in 20 overs, while Sachidanand Pandey claimed 2 wickets by giving away 78 runs in his 27 overs.
Chasing a target of 320 runs in around 80 overs on the final day, Services were bundled out for a paltry total of 146 runs in 72.2 overs, thus lost the match by a big margin. AP Sharma top scored with 54 runs while AA Salvi contributed 34 runs to the total. Ravi Chuhan was the only other batsman to cross the double figure mark, who chipped in with 13 runs. From Jammu and Kashmir off-spinner Rasool and speedster Mohammad Mudhasir took 3 wickets each, conceding 45 and 23 runs in their 19 and 16 overs respectively, while medium pacers Umar Nazir and Aquib Nabi bagged 2 wickets each by giving away 38 and 23 runs in 14.2 and 13 overs respectively.
With this win, J&K has earned 6 points to reach at number 2 spot in the points table with 26 points, just behind 28 points secured by table topper Odisha.
In the next fixture, Jammu and Kashmir will lock horns with Odisha at Barabati Stadium, Cuttack on January 19, 2020.
