BCC Blues wins Jaan Memorial Cricket Tournament

BARAMULLA, Aug 25 : The BCC Blues won the Jaan Memorial Cricket T20 Tournament by defeating Victoria Baramulla by three wickets in a keenly played final match at the Showkat Ali Stadium, Government Degree College Ground, here this afternoon.
Mr. N N Vohra, Governor, who was the Chief Guest at the final match, gave away trophies to the winner and runner up teams as well as to the players who won over the ‘man of the Match and the ‘Man of the Series’ awards.
As many as 60 teams from North Kashmir had participated in this Tournament.
Usha Vohra, First Lady, R. S. Chib, Minister for Youth Services and Sports, Javid Ahmad Dar, Minister of State for R&B, Navin K. Choudhary, Principal Secretary to the Governor, Maj. Gen. Bipin Rawat, GOC 19 Inf Div, G. A Khawaja, Deputy Commissioner, Baramulla, Anand Jain, SSP Baramulla, senior Civil, Police and Security Forces officers, District Officers, office bearers of the Jaan Memorial Cricket Tournament Committee, prominent citizens, cricket lovers and a large number of students and local people were present on the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion, the Governor congratulated the Jaan Memorial Cricket Tournament Committee, 19 Div, Sports Department and all those associated with the Tournament for supporting the organisation of this major sports event. He observed that such events help in the promotion of sports and that, keeping in view the popularity of cricket and the quality of the game displayed in the final match, there is every reason to hope that many young cricketers from this area would make it to the national team in the coming years.
R S Chib, Minister for Youth Services and Sports, speaking on the occasion, gave details of the various initiatives being taken for the promotion of sports and games in the State. He thanked the Governor for his keen interest in the promotion of sports activities in the State.
Maj. Gen. Bipin Rawat, GOC 19 Inf Div, said that credit for successfully organising this Tournament goes to the organisers as well as to the people of the area who took keen interest in holding the event.
