JAMMU, Nov 24: Asma Gul and Rudhra Partap Singh, both students of Sprawling Buds ICSE School, Bantalab, Jammu won the coveted Junior Girls and Junior Boys title respectively whereas Tanisha Rakwal of St. Xavier Sr. Secondary School, Barnai, Jammu and Sutikshan Partap Singh of Sprawling Buds ICSE School became the new champions in Mini Girls and Mini Boys category of the first phase of the 1st J&K Union Territory Sport Climbing Championship which concluded at Sprawling Buds ICSC School, here.
In the remaining 3 categories, all the titles and most of the 2nd and 3rd positions were won by new faces.
While Sahil Kumar of Shining Star Academy, Muthi, Jammu and Sonakshi of Sprawling Buds ICSE School, Jammu bagged the Sub Junior Boys and Sub Junior Girls titles, another new climber Manisha Kumari, a sports teacher of Dewan Devi Hr. Sec. School, Shakti Nagar, Jammu clinched the Women’s title.
The best contest was, however, witnessed in the Junior Boys section in which 3 climbers topped the wall and the result was determined on the basis of time taken by the climbers to top the wall.
Highlight of the competition was no doubt the superb performance of Asma Gul in the Jr. Girls category. Her climb was an outstanding exhibition of power and technique. The 15 year old Asma, a national climber, climbed immaculately from one hold to another, making excellent climbing moves to top the wall in just 32 seconds. The spectators were held spellbound during her climb.
