Ashant wins District Climbing C’ship’s sub jr title

JAMMU, May 1: Ashant Singh of Aryan Oriental Convent Higher Secondary School won the prestigious sub junior boys title of the Udhampur District Sport Climbing Championship which concluded at Sprawling Buds ICSE School, Bantalab, here today.
In a tough contest with Aarav Khajuria and Anikate Sharma of National Academy High School, Ashant Singh climbed a little higher to emerge victorious. Aarav Khajuria and Aniket Sharma bagged the Silver and Bronze medals respectively.
However, climbers of National Academy High School, Udhampur came back very strongly in the junior girls category and swept all the medals with Shivali Thakur, Versha Jamwal and Swlakshi Balwal securing the first three positions.
Similarly, in the junior girls of Reasi district, Jyoti, Shivani and Arti Parihar of Amba Kids Home Panthal, Katra clinched the first three positions.
However, Vansh, Misbah Ulh and Ajeet of Reasi district regaled the crowd by climbing the 40 ft high fiberglass climbing wall in great style to claim the Gold, Silver and Bronze medals respectively.
In the valedictory function Chairman of Sprawling Buds ICSE School Rahul Sharma, who is also a patron of Tawi Trekkers J&K was the chief guest along with Shawetica Khajuria, general secretary of Mountaineering Association of J&K.
Prominent persons including Ram Khajuria, sr. vice president, Sumit Khajuria, vice president; Mank Slathia, joint secretary; Navneet Gupta and Sonam Sidharth, both executive members of Mountaineering Association of J&K; Anukampa Sharma of National Academy High School, Udhampur, international climbers Shivani Charak, Shilpa Charak and Arun Deep Singh were present during the event.
