Arushi wins Gold in Inter-University Chess C’ship

JAMMU, Mar 16: Pradhan Mantri Bal Puskar Awardee of J&K, Arushi Kotwal won gold in North Zone Inter-University Chess Championship, held at Jhansi Uttar Pradesh.
Arushi Kotwal represented the Delhi University’s team in the championship and won gold medal in team category and individual Gold on board two.
The team members were WCM Arushi Kotwal, WFM Tanishka Kotia, Srimathi R, Kaur Palkin, Abirama Srinithi and Medha Chouhan. The team won all the four rounds with clean sweep and 5th as well as final round by a margin of 3-1.
The Silver medal went to Punjab University Chandigarh, while the Bronze medal was won by Himachal Pradesh University Shimla and University of Lucknow stood 4th in the championship.
The top four teams will represent North Zone in the Chess Championship at Chennai, Tamil Nadu next month.
Arushi represented J&K in 35th National Junior Chess Championship-2022 last week and qualified for the Asian Junior Chess Championship-2022 and World Junior Chess Championship-2022.
She was conferred with S Rangil Singh Award for her Excellency in Sports for the year 2019-20 by J&K Olympic Association, yesterday at Amar Singh Club. The award was received by her elder sister Akriti Kotwal as Arushi was participating in North Zone Inter-University Chess Championship at Jhansi.
