Army organizes Golden Jubilee Cycle Rally

SAMBA, Sept 3:  India’s victory over Pakistan in the 1965 war reinstated the supremacy of the Indian Army and reflected its resilience. The year 2015 marks the “Golden Jubilee Year” of the victory and to commemorate the same, Rising Star Corps flagged off of a cycling expedition from Jammu to Delhi covering a distance of 1211 kilometers.
Since the beginning of August this year Rising Star Corps has been actively involved in commemorating the “Golden Jubilee Celebrations”, where, war documentaries were screened and presentations were carried out in numerous schools and villages in Jammu.
The objective was to generate awareness among the people especially the youth about the valour and sacrifices by Indian Army during the war and how the Indian Army, in-spite of all odds won successfully.
A mega event was organized at Bari Brahmana wherein the chief guest was Major General Sanjeev Narain, General Officer Commanding Tiger Division.
The event commenced with a short cycle rally from Samba Memorial to Bari Brahmana Military Station, the Samba memorial has been built close to Basantar River near Samba where a major tank battle has been fought earlier.
The culmination of this short cycle rally was combined with numerous events to include Mass Pipe Band Display, cultural activities by children from Army Public School, Bari Brahmana and felicitation of 1965 War Veterans.
The event was attended by around 2000 spectators which included Army personnel, veterans, civilians, their families and children.
