RAJOURI, June 11: Under the aegis of Counter Insurgency Force (Romeo), Army organized a cultural-cum-sports mela at Government Degree College, Thanamandi, which concluded today.
Around 1000 youth from the region took part in this five-day long event conducted from June 7 to June 11, 2013, which was aimed at promoting sporting culture amongst the youth of the region.
The event also provided an opportunity to the budding and talented youth of the region to show-case their innate talent.
During the mela, competitions for popular games like Volleyball, Kho-Kho and Kabaddi were organized in which a total of eight teams from Thanamandi, Rajdhani, Manyar Gali, Azmatabad, Shahdara, Mngota, Darhal and Bharot participated.
Besides, a number of social issues like saving the environmental degradation, conserving water and electricity were also highlighted. Baba Sports Club, Narani Kabaddi Club, Government Boys HS Azamtabad and Government Girls High School, Azamtabad won the volleyball, kabaddi and kho-kho competitions respectively.
Commander, Romeo Force was present on the occasion and gave away souvenirs to the participants.
District Youth Services and Sports Officer, Rajouri, Ayaz Khan expressed gratitude towards Army for organizing such events.
