Army flagged-in trekking expedition

UDHAMPUR, Sept 9: GOC, Fire and Fury Corps Lieutenant General PJS Pannu flagged-in a trekking expedition undertaken by troops of 9 Sector RR in an impressive ‘Flagging in Ceremony’ conducted at Leh.
The GOC, Fire and Fury Corps in the capacity of Colonel of the Regiment of Maratha Light Infantry met and felicitated Officers, Junior Commissioned Officers and Soldiers of the 17 Rashtriya Rifles who were from the Maratha Light Infantry and were on a trekking expedition from Gulabgarh to Padam.
The expedition was flagged off at Kishtwar by GOC, D Force in the third week of August 2016. The expedition consisted of 14 members under Major SK Singh of 17 Rashtriya Rifles.
The expedition reached Padam Valley after a grueling nine day trek over the inhospitable and difficult terrain of ‘The Great Himalayan Range’ crossing the formidable Omasi La Pass, which is at 17600 feet and was the highest point crossed by the team.
The aim of the expedition was to instill in troops a spirit of adventure and promote decision making amongst the junior leaders under adverse conditions.
