Anti drug awareness programme held at Mawa

SAMBA, May 10: Police organized an anti-drug awareness programme at Shaheed Rfn Varun Katal Memorial Govt. High School Mawa, situated in the border area of Samba sector under Civic Action Programme (CAP), here today.
Hundreds of students of Govt. and private schools along with their parents, teachers as well as prominent citizens and police officers witnessed the speech delivering competition.
SSP Benam Tosh, Addl. SP Samba Surinder Choudhary, DySP DAR Samba Ajay Anand, SHO Police Station Ghagwal Bharat Bhushan, Chouki Officer Rajpura Sudhir Singh and PRIs presented certificates and cash rewards of Rs 10000, Rs 7000 and Rs 4000 to the first, second and third best student speakers respectively, whereas five other student speakers were also felicitated with certificates and cash rewards of rupees 2000 each.
The students of Lord Shiva Higher Secondary School Mawa, Shaheed Rfn Varun Katal Memorial Govt. High School Mawa, New Modern High School Mawa and other nearby schools participated in today’s anti-drug awareness programme.
BDC Chairman Rajpura Radha Krishan, DDC member Rajpura Asha Rani and Headmistress Govt. High School Mawa Shoba Kumari thanked the Police for organizing the awareness programme at the border village to generate awareness among students and public against drug abuse.
Additional SP Samba also spoke on the occasion and asked youth to stay away from narcotic substances.
Senior Superintendent of Police Samba Benam Tosh said that Police is organizing symposiums, seminars and debates at different schools and colleges with the objective of creating anti-narcotic awareness among students, youth and parents and making it a mass movement against drugs especially heroin called “Chitta”.
He further said that nobody would be allowed in Samba district to flourish with illicit drug smuggling, supplying and peddling and Police has almost controlled the drug menace by arresting top suppliers.
Benam Tosh informed that Police would organize more such awareness programmes, cultural events and sports activities in border villages of Samba district in near future.
