JAMMU, Apr 2: Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) Armed, J&K, Lalut Indu Mohanti today felicitated J&K Police Wrestling team here at Armed Police Headquarters for being overall winners of 8th State Wrestling Championship.
Jammu and Kashmir Police emerged overall winners after securing highest 29 points during the State Championship held at Dewan Mandir Akhara, Shalamar here.
The championship was organized by J&K Indian Style Wrestling Association under the aegis of J&K State Sports Council.
A total of 52 wrestlers participated in the Championship representing districts of Jammu, Udhampur, Reasi, Poonch, Kathua, Samba, Ganderbal, Anantang and J&K Police.
The wrestlers who were felicitated during the function included the gold medalists Roshan Sharma, Lal Hussain, Nissar Ahmad, Ranjeet Singh, silver medalists Daler Khan, Rajesh Kumar, Ishtiyaq Ahmad, Ajay Bharti, and bronze medalists Pawan Kumar and Shubham Singh.
Speaking on the occasion, ADGP said that J&K Police has been able to produce quality wrestlers who had brought laurels to the State.
He urged the wrestlers to start preparations for the upcoming events to earn name and fame at national and international levels. “The influence of J&K Police wrestlers will not remain limited to the State only, our wrestlers will be able to book their names among the winners of national and international competitions, this will only be possible if they start practicing vigorously and aiming something really big”, he added.
Among others, the felicitation function was attended by Mr. Yoginder Koul, IGP IRP Jammu, Javed Iqbal Mattoo, Staff Officer to ADGP Armed, S S Sharma, SSP APCR Jammu, Rohit Baskotra, SP, Kuldeep Handoo, Sports Officer J&K Police and other wrestlers of J&K Police Wrestling team.
