JAMMU, Mar 14: Dr SD Singh Jamwal, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Jammu inaugurated the Zonal Level Police Sports Festival, being organized by Zonal Police Headquarters Jammu in an impressive, well attended and colourful function at Gulshan ground, here today.
The Zonal level Sports Festival included Cricket, Football, Kabbadi, Volleyball, Kho- Kho, Tug of War and Athletics.
Rajesh Sharma, SO to IGP Jammu is the in-charge of the organizing team, while Rajesh Gill, Chief Prosecuting Officer and member Sports Council Jammu is the Coordinator of the event.
The slogan of the event is ‘Let’s Play, Keep Stress Away’.
In the inauguration function Dr SD Singh IGP Jammu was the chief guest, Rafiq-Ul-Hasan DIG Jammu was the guest of honour, while Vivek Gupta SSP Jammu and Ranjeet Kalra, Vice Chairman Sports Council were the special guests.
The chief guest declared the Sports Festival open by releasing balloons in presence of a galaxy of dignitaries.
While speaking on the occasion, the Chief Guest IGP Jammu stated that the main objective of the J&K Police is to engage the boys and girls at grass root level in different sports activities throughout the year so that apart from showcasing their sports skills they maintain a positive view in studies and sports.
He said that sports has become a career option in modern era and advised the young participants to work hard to blossom at the National scene.
Earlier Rajesh Gill Chief Prosecuting Officer and Coordinator of the event presented welcome address and brief report of the Festival.
He said the event is an annual feature with an objective to provide exposure to the youth of the state and hunt talent, under the directions of Dr SP Vaid DGP J&K.
Earlier, in Athletics (Girls) 100 mts, Shikha Sharma (Jammu) was declared first, Rimpi Chouhan (Udhampur) got second place and Tania Sharma (Udhampur) stood third.
In Boys 100 mts,  Chander Malhotra (Jammu) was adjudged first, Abhishek (Udhampur) was declared second and Randhir Singh (Jammu) got third position.
Boys 200 mts, Randhir Singh and Chander (Jammu) were declared first and second, while Abhishek (Udhampur) was adjudged third.
In Boys Shot Put, Mohd Azam (Jammu) was declared first, Vipan Singh (Ramban) second and Romit Sharma (Udhampur) was declared third.
In Girls Kho-Kho, HS Sewna beat HS Malhar by 2 points in the final and clinched the title trophy.
In Boys Tug of War, NGM Jammu beat HEM Rajouri by 2-0 in the first semifinal, while in the second semifinal, Kathua Club beat GMLHS Udhampur by 2-1.
In final NGM Miran Sahib drubbed Mahichak Kathua by 2-0.
In Kabbadi Boys, Udhampur Club beat Hiranagar Club by 24 points, while Kathua Club got the better of Ramban Club by 10 points.
In Cricket Boys, Balhar Kathua beat Rajouri Club by 14 runs. Batting first, Balhar Kathua scored 88 runs in 15 overs. Bhawani (28) and Gourav (26) were the main scorers. From bowling side, Arun took 4 wickets, while Aqib, Aftab, Sahil and Izhar took 1 wicket each.
In reply, Rajouri managed to score 74 runs for the loss of 6 wickets thus lost  the match by 14 runs. Aqib (37) was the top scorer. From bowling side, Vishal and Dighu took 2 wickets each and Nitin took 1 wicket.
In another match, Jammu Rising Stars beat BBSVP Udhampur by 68 runs. Jammu Rising Stars, batting first, scored 170 runs in 16 overs. Sahil Latra (60), Ridham (31) and Samad (27) were the main scorers. From bowling side, Piyush took 3 wickets, while Anikait and Bhirgu took 2 wicket each and Rohit claimed 1 wicket.
In reply, Udhampur managed to score 102 runs thus lost the match by 68 runs. Ashank 47 was the top scorer. From bowling side, Harman took 3 wickets, Sahil and Samad claimed 2 wickets each. Sahil Lalotra declared as the man of the match.
The proceedings of the inaugural function were conducted by anchors Rajesh Dhar and RP Singh.
