JAMMU, Mar 14: The 44th Inter-Collegiate Annual Athletic Meet (M&W) 2017-18 was declared open by Prof R D Sharma, Vice Chancellor, University of Jammu, here this afternoon.
The Athletic Meet is being organized by the Directorate of Sports and Physical Education, University of Jammu.
Prof RD Sharma was the chief guest on the function. In his inaugural address, Prof Sharma encouraged the participants to play with good sportsman spirit and advised them to play for the splendor of the game. He said participation is more important than winning and asked all the athletes who are participating in this event to show their best performance.
The Vice Chancellor appreciated the efforts of the Directorate of Sports and Physical Education for organizing this event on annual basis and expressed hope that it would bring fruitful results.
Prof. Sharma also congratulated the colleges and the participating teams for taking part in the event.
Earlier in his welcome address, Dr. Daud Iqbal Baba, Director, Directorate of Sports and Physical Education dwelt on the details of the event.
He further stated that 31 teams from various colleges of the Jammu Division are participating in this championship in about 38 athletic events organized for both men and women.
On this occasion, a Gatka performance was also presented by a Gatka Troupe which included Ravinder Singh, Lavpreet Singh, Mandeep Singh, Gurvinder Singh and Harpreet Singh. They were also presented Mementos. Akansha Sabharwal and Kanchan Thapa also presented a Fencing performance during the event. Both the performances were lauded by the audience.
The formal vote of thanks was presented by Dr. Komal Nagar, Assistant Director, Directorate of Sports and Physical Education.
Among other present on the occasion were Prof. Satnam Kour, Dean Students Welfare, Prof. Darshana Sharma, Director, DDE, Prof. Arti Bakshi, Head, Department of Psychology, Prof. Parikshat Singh Manhas, Director, SHTM, Dr. Neeraj Sharma, SS to VC, . Sunil Sahi, Ranjeet Kalra, Guneet Sudan, faculty members, Officers and Presidents of various unions and non-teaching staff of the University.
In 10,000 Mtrs men’s final, Makhan Singh, GDC, Basohli (40:12.18)-Gold; Akshay Sharma, GDCUdhampur (40:25.60)-Silver and Daulat Singh, GDC, Kathua (42:12.71)-Bronze
In 800 Mtrs men, Hardesh Singh, PG Department (2:15.51)-Gold; Gourav Sharma, GDC Samba (2:15.97)-Silver; Murad Ali, GDC Kathua (2:16.34)-Bronze.
In 800 Mtrswomen, Shashi Sharma, GCW Parade (3:06.48)-Gold; Deepika Gupta, PD Department (3:09.90)-Silver and Rimpi Devi, GDC Samba (3:11.20)-Bronze.
