VKK Branch Jammu celebrates 125th anniversary of Vivekananda’s Chicago address

JAMMU, Sept 11: In commemoration of 125th anniversary of historical Chicago address by Swami Vivekananda in 1893 in first World Parliament of Religious, a seminar on the topic “Chicago addresses by Swami Vivekananda their impact on India and the World” was organized by Vivekananda Kendra Kanyakumari branch Jammu in the Auditorium of Govt College for Women, Gandhi Nagar, here.
Inter-College Competition involving students from eight prestigious colleges of Jammu City was held wherein Anjani Raina  of Women College Parade, s Harsimrat Kour of Gandhi Nagar College and Manu Sharma of Govt College for Education, Canal Road Jammu were  adjudged1Ist, 2nd and 3rd respectively.
ID Soni, Commissioner Bharat Scouts and Guides (J&K) presided over the programme, while Praveen Sharma, Chairman Citizen Co-operative Bank was the guest of honour.
While giving away the prizes and certificates of appreciation to the winners, Mr Soni stressed upon the students and youth to follow the ideas of Swami Vivekananda and study his life & teachings in detail  and also applauded the role of Vivekananda Kendra in organizing such functions.
Parveen Sharma appreciated the work of Vivekananda Kendra and requested the authorities to include life and teachings of Swami Vivekananda in School Curricula.
Dr OP Gupta Sanchalak of Jammu Branch gave brief account of activities of the organization and SK Jain Sampark Pramokh presented vote of thanks.
During the function there was live telecast of Prime Minister’s address to the students leaders convention. This was listened with rapt attentions by the students and dignitaries.
