JAMMU, Sept 11: BSF Kashmir kept their nerves to make it to the semis of the ongoing Ravinder Khajuria memorial basketball tournament being organized at MA stadium, beating Jammu district 76-72, in the third over time after the match was tied twice.
The crucial match was decider for the second team to enter the semi finals from Pool B besides J&K Police , who had already made it to the knock out stage beating Unicorns in a one sided affair. The match turned out to be ding dong battle from the very beginning with both teams matching each other basket by basket. Teams were tied at 54-54 at the end of regulation time and the in the first over time of five minutes, Arjun Singh of Jammu district was fouled out, giving slender advantage to the BSF men; however, Jammu men fought well and managed to equalize the score once again at 64-64, forcing the match into another overtime of 5 minutes. With both teams on four fouls and most of the players playing on their fifth foul, the match became more of a free throw contest, in which BSF men eventually emerged victorious by four points.
In other matches of the day, J&K police beat Unicorn 79-25, STC Warriors beat 21 Jat Regiment 63-39 and STC Terriers beat 26 Rajput 63-20.
In the semifinals, JKP will take on BSF Kashmir, while STC Warriors shall take on their juniors STC Terriers on Tuesday.
The tournament is being organized under the aegis of J&K Basketball Association in the memory of Ravinder Khajuria, a noted basketball coach of the State.
