SAMBA, June 19: Wrestler from Maharashtra Nasir Qureshi today defeated wrestler Benia of J&K Police and lifted Jai Baba Shivo Dangal title of the 2nd Jai Baba Shivo Mahakesri Dangal, organised by Jai Baba Shivo Dangal Committee at Goran, here.
Renowned wrestlers from across the country participated in the Dangal, which was witnessed by a gathering of nearly 30,000 people from the district.
The main bout in which first position was won by Maharashtra’s Qureshi, was awarded Rs 1, 21,000 prize money.
Meanwhile in the second bout, which was fought between Harish Ravat of Bahadargarh, UP and Abdul Ghani of Malerkotla, Punjab, ended in a draw.
In the third bout having prize money of Rs 51,000, Sonu Pahalwan of Himachal Pradesh outclassed Jaswant Rana of Delhi.
Around 60 bouts were played in the competition and an amount of Rs 7,00,000 was distributed in the shape of prizes among the winners and runner-up.
MLA Samba Dr Devinder Manyal was the chief guest on the occasion, while MLA Hiranagar, Kuldeep Raj, Team Jammu Chairman, Zorawar Singh Jamwal, Tehsildar Samba ARTO Samba Kuldeep Singh, SHO Samba, Inspector Yash Pal Singh Jamwal and Bank Manager, Rajpal Singh Slathia were guests of honour.
While speaking, MLA announced Rs 10 lakh for shed at Baba Goran and a borewell. He also announced sports stadium for dangal like competitions after finding a suitable land.
MLAs Dr Manyal and Kuldeep Raj also agreed to have link road between Surara to Goran.
Team Jammu Chairman Zorawar Singh Jamwal in his address said that such competitions must be organised in various parts as they not only keep the youth away from drugs but also keep them healthy.
Dangal Committee Chairman Des Raj Sharma, President Rahul Sambyal, Razy Sambyal, Senior Vice President, Surjeet Singh, Vice-President, Satish Dutta, General Secretary, Ashwani, Mohan Singh, Vikesh Amba and many others were present on the occasion.
